The Biosecurity Office is a temporary national information centre for the government and for organisations that work with high-risk biological material. The office aims to disseminate the government's new policy on biosecurity; for example, by giving workshops and providing information.
Activities of the Biosecurity Office:
- disseminating the Dutch Government's proposed biosecurity policy.
- providing knowledge to support organisations that are voluntarily implementing biosecurity measures.
- creating and maintaining an overview of organisations that work with high-risk pathogens.
- providing knowledge support to the government.
The Biosecurity Office is part of Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in Bilthoven. The Biosecurity Office evolved from a government-initiated interdepartmental biosecurity project involving the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism (NCTV). The biosecurity project is aimed at introducing a Dutch biosecurity regime.
